WEST AKRON: Police reviewed video surveillance from a business in the 1900 block of West Market Street Sept. 10 to identify the person who used a sledgehammer to break the front window and enter at 3 a.m. and smash a jewelry case. On Sept. 11, police investigated the theft of a vehicle parked behind a business in the 1800 block of Merriman Road and a vehicle outside a home in the 100 block of Grand Avenue Sept. 12. Following a traffic stop Sept. 12, a passenger wanted on warrants reportedly provided a false identity and was charged with falsification, as well as receiving stolen property, after he reportedly admitted placing a license plate that had been reported stolen on the vehicle and having a weapon, found in the glove box, while under disability. He was taken to the Summit County Jail. A driver stopped for a traffic violation on West Market Street Sept. 12 was charged with possession of Xanax and two bags of liquid methamphetamine and a passenger was arrested for drug possession when police found crystal methamphetamine and Xanax in her purse. Both were taken to jail. Officers viewed video surveillance of a man who exited the passenger side of a white minivan in the 1600 block of Fairfax Road between 8 and 9 a.m. Sept. 12 and defecated in the grass while children were walking to school in the area. Police responded to reports of shots fired at a South Maple Street location Sept. 15 and found a man outside the residence. He surrendered to police and stated his father-in-law assaulted him and he fired two shots from his gun to make him leave, which he did. The father-in-law returned to the scene and provided conflicting information. Assault charges were not authorized for either man at the time and police took the resident to jail on a warrant. On Sept. 15, two debit cards stolen from an unlocked vehicle outside a South Balch Street residence were used for purchases, and someone threw a brick through a window of a vehicle parked in the 1-100 block of South Maple Street and stole cash and a handgun. Also credit cards were stolen from vehicles whose windows were smashed while parked in a lot in the 2400 block of Romig Road. The cards were used for fraudulent purchases. Items also were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the lot. A Birdwood Road woman reported Sept. 15 two handguns were stolen from her residence. On Sept. 15 police responding to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of Grace Avenue found a vehicle with a bullet hole in the driver’s side door and collected multiple shell casings from the street. Following an investigation into the murder of a Koerber Avenue woman April 7, police went to a residence in the 500 block of Roslyn Avenue Sept. 16, arrested a man for aggravated murder and took him to the jail. Police investigated the theft of a vehicle from a Copley Road towing business Sept. 16, when employees reported a woman came there and asked to retrieve items from a vehicle. They led her to the vehicle and she got into it and drove away. On Sept. 16, police investigated the theft of four 96-gallon trash totes from a Dominion Drive location. Police investigated a break-in at a business in the 2000 block of Romig Road Sept. 17, when a computer and safe were stolen.

BATH: Police signed a theft warrant for a man Sept. 9 after employees reported he loaded a shopping cart with lumber at a North Cleveland-Massillon Road business and returned it for a gift card, which he used to purchase merchandise. A driver, stopped for a traffic violation Sept. 10, repeatedly refused to identify himself to police and demanded to see a supervisor, who came to the scene. The man, who was driving under suspension and was wanted on several warrants, was ordered out of the vehicle, along with a passenger. Police located a loaded handgun under the driver’s seat, which the man claimed ownership of, he was charged and released to the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department. Police patrolling the parking lot of a North Cleveland-Massillon Road store Sept. 10 saw a man load items into a vehicle and enter the passenger side, leaving a shopping cart there. As the vehicle drove away, the cart rolled across the lot and struck and damaged another vehicle. Police stopped the vehicle and the man agreed to make restitution. Police determined he was wanted on a felony warrant, and when he was unable to produce a purchase receipt for the items, employees reviewed video surveillance and determined he had stolen them. He was charged with theft and released to Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies on the warrant. On Sept. 11, police investigated a report by a North Cleveland-Massillon Road man who stated a female acquaintance came to his home and stole his phone. He later noticed the cash app on the phone had been used to make a $480 withdrawal from his bank account. Employees of a Medina Road store reported Sept. 11 two women stole merchandise and left. Police searched the area but were unable to locate their vehicle. Police searched the area near a North Cleveland-Massillon Road store for a teal blue Audi sedan Sept. 12 after store employees reported video surveillance showed the driver entered the store on three occasions within a half-hour, switch price tags on lumber and two chain saws and leave without paying the full price, which caused a loss of $1,827. Other video showed the same suspect participated in five similar incidents at the store Aug. 31, causing a loss of more than $2,500 to the store. A woman who had been banned from a Medina Road store was arrested for trespassing as well as theft Sept. 12 when she failed to scan merchandise and left without paying. Police responding to a vehicle crash on North Cleveland-Massillon Road Sept. 14 found a vehicle on its side and the driver standing beside it. She was evaluated by EMS and reportedly admitted drinking before driving and several open containers of beer were found in the vehicle. She was charged with driving under suspension and DUI and transported to a hospital. On Sept. 14, police investigated the theft of a 16-foot trailer valued at $8,000 from the 600 block of Crystal Lake Road.

COPLEY: Employees called police to a Rothrock Road store Sept. 12 when two women concealed 39 TV streaming devices worth around $34 each and left without paying for them. The manager of a Brookmont Road business reported Sept. 13 two employees arrived late for work and he sent them home and later received threatening text messages containing images of them waving a firearm. The employees were fired and the manager asked that police advise them they are banned from the business. Police responded to a report of a disabled vehicle on Interstate 77 Sept. 14 after a driver reported she was coming home after picking up her vehicle from an oil change when the vehicle hood flew open and smashed her windshield. Employees of a Medina Road store reported Sept. 15 a man left with $478 in merchandise, which was retrieved. The man refused to stop and left in his vehicle. Police located him at a nearby hotel and charged him with theft. On Sept. 15, employees of a Medina Road store reported a man switched price tags on items and left. When he was confronted in the parking lot, he reportedly admitted switching price tags and police charged him with theft.

FAIRLAWN: A Bay Hills Drive woman reported Sept. 1 her purse, wallet and Social Security card were stolen from her home. Employees reported a woman stole a stuffed animal from a West Market Street store Sept. 9 and left in a vehicle. Police stopped her on West Market Street, she surrendered the merchandise and was charged with theft and banned from the store. Police arrested an Everton Drive woman and a Youngstown man for theft Sept. 11 after they under-rang merchandise at a Medina Road store, causing a loss to the business of $99. A Mogadore woman was charged with theft of $52 in items from a West Market Street store Sept. 11 and released to Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a weapons warrant.

NORTON: Police responded to reports of an erratic driver that struck a vehicle parked outside a Gardner Boulevard business Sept. 8, drove away and parked behind a South Cleveland-Massillon Road building. Police found him walking in the area and he was unsteady and appeared to be intoxicated. Two empty vodka bottles and a cup of liquor were found in his vehicle and an empty vodka bottle was found in a nearby dumpster, which the man admitted was his. He was unable to complete a field sobriety test and his BAC tested .304. He was charged with DUI. Officers provided additional patrol near the home of a Norton man who reported Sept. 9 he received a phone call from a man who stated he was coming to his home to collect a debt for a man who is incarcerated. Also on Sept. 9, police reviewed video surveillance from a construction site on Knecht Road after a contractor reported a hot water tank was stolen from a house and witnesses reported a silver or gray sedan leaving with the tank in the trunk Sept. 7. Officers responded to the parking lot of a South Cleveland-Massillon Road restaurant Sept. 9 after callers reported a small dog was panting and in distress inside a vehicle. Police located the dog owner and charged the person with cruelty to animals. A Greenridge Road man reported Sept. 11 a rolling toolbox was stolen from outside his home. He stated the theft occurred around the same time that a dirt bike was stolen from a resident on Shellhart Road. Police located a person in the bike theft and found other items he had stolen stashed in a wooded area, but the toolbox was not there. A Mount Vernon Boulevard woman reported Sept. 12 a man she only knows as Mike gained access to her computer and bank card and called her 17 times within three days. She stated she is working with her bank and has taken her computer to be cleaned and repaired. Police left a phone message for Mike telling him not to contact her. Employees of a Greenwich Road store provided police with video surveillance Sept. 14 showing a woman switched labels on store items and paid $6.65 for merchandise worth $83.75. She was identified and theft charges were pending completion of an investigation.

PENINSUALA/BOSTON: An Elyria man was pulled over Sept. 7 for running a stop sign at Riverview and Everett roads. The officer reported smelling the odor of marijuana and cologne inside the car and questioned the man. He was reportedly seen trying to throw away a marijuana cigarette during the stop and was cited for the traffic violation and marijuana possession. A Cuyahoga Falls woman was cited for speeding and drug paraphernalia possession Sept. 13 following a traffic stop on Akron-Peninsula Road. The woman reportedly told the officer she had a marijuana bowl inside the car, which was located. The woman took field sobriety tests and was found to not be impaired.

RICHFIELD: Police investigated a Sept. 6 report by a tenant of a Brecksville Road hotel stating cash and a debit card were stolen from his room. Following a traffic stop on Brecksville Road Sept. 7, police charged a driver with possession of drug paraphernalia and having excessive tint on his vehicle windows. Marijuana cigarettes, blunts and loose marijuana and a smoking device were recovered from the vehicle and tagged for destruction. A Ridge Road man reported Sept. 7 police had his vehicle towed to a storage lot following an accident and though officers released it, the facility refused to give it to him. Police advised him it is a civil matter and told him to file reports in Granger Township, where the vehicle is being held, or Seville, where the corporate office is located. Police were called to Streetsboro Road Sept. 7 after a woman’s dog burrowed under her fence and ran across a neighbor’s yard to chase a deer. The woman ran after her dog. The neighbor reported she trespassed on his property and when she continued to try and get her dog, she stated he grabbed her arm, causing a visible red mark and scratches, which police photographed. She stated she wanted to file assault charges, and police contacted a legal advisor who authorized the man be charged with assault and the woman be charged with having an animal at large. A woman reported Sept. 9 she had been involved in a vehicle crash on Wheatley Road and a man who obtained her information after the incident has been harassing her on social media. Police advised her to block the man on her devices. A Kiowa Drive woman contacted police Sept. 9 after her bank reviewed fraudulent withdrawals of $39,000 and $25,000 from her business account and denied her claim, stating she needed proof that she did not make the withdrawals. She said she became suspicious when she noticed deposits of 22 cents and 20 cents into the account, before the fraudulent activity occurred and that her mother has been supplying information to someone who claimed to work at her bank. Police patrolling Interstate 77 Sept. 10 at 1 a.m. saw a woman walking on the road. She stated she had an argument with her boyfriend and he left her on the side of the road and drove away. Police took her to a travel center, where she became irate, and police advised her she would be charged with disorderly conduct if she did not calm down, which she did. She made calls attempting to get a ride. Officers called her boyfriend and left a message. A customer called police to a Streetsboro Road tavern Sept. 10 at 1 a.m. stating a man in the bar punched him. He had no injuries and everyone involved denied hitting him and said he had five drinks at the bar. Police stated they would review video surveillance of the incident and he got a ride home.
