Elizabeth “Joan” Kugler, 86 of Hamilton, passed away, Monday, October 3, 2022, at 10:55 a.m. at the Silver Maple Care Center in Carthage.

Joan was born June 28, 1936, in Macomb, the daughter of Marion Wayne “Gus” Morris and Eva Marguerite Sowers Morris.

She graduated from Macomb High School. Upon graduation, she was a bookkeeper at a parts store in Macomb. On January 22, 1956, Joan wed Jackson Keith Kugler at the Methodist church in Macomb, IL. She moved to Hamilton, IL where she lived her remaining years. She began working at Montgomery Wards in Keokuk, IA, then moved to Sharpe Ford Dealership as bookkeeper until 1970 when she went to work with her husband at Great Lakes Boat Company, retiring as bookkeeper and Secretary in September, 1999.

She was a past member of the Hamilton Business and Professional Women, Hamilton VFW and Keokuk Yacht Club. Joan enjoyed the many trips they won while selling boats. She loved her crafts, collecting seashells and her many kittens. She was very fun loving and usually the life of the party. Joan thoroughly enjoyed boating, especially at the Lake of the Ozarks.

She is survived by her beloved husband Jack, of Hamilton, daughter Vicki Jo Shean (Michael) of McKinney, TX and son Jeffrey Wayne (Sara) of Hamilton; five granddaughters, Jennifer Derr of Keokuk, IA, Kaylin Gann (Zachary) of Prosper, TX, Megan Tomasek (Jason) of Queen Creek, AZ, Laura Hawes (Justin) of Hamilton and Kassidy Bird (Jim Blodgett) of Altoona, IA; ten great grandchildren, Olivia and Jillian Derr, Brynlee and Brayden Gann, Laine and Bennett Tomasek, Sophia and Whitney Hawes, and Jackson and Rowan Bird. Also surviving is a sister, Patty Wilson (Larry) of Gilbert, AZ and sister-in-law Sharon Franklin (Kirk) of Bella Vista, AR and a niece and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials can be directed to an animal shelter of the donor’s choice or the Maple Grove Memory Care facility in Carthage.

Services will be held at a later date. Printy Funeral Home, Hamilton, is in charge of the arrangements.
