Children and adults took part in crafts such as paper quilling, seashell painting, and beading, during the “Something’s Fishy” Messy Church event on August 1 at St. Andrew’s United Church.  A collaboration between St. Andrew’s United and St. Mary’s Anglican churches, St. Mary’s church member Rikki Burke shared, “Over the past several years we have hosted smaller messy church events at our parishes that have proven to be very well attended… We have been talking for a couple years now that we wanted to offer a larger community event during the Blueberry Festival. This was the year that we decided to give it a try and it was a big hit!” Burke added, “It was wonderful to see adults and children getting their hands (and bodies) messy playing with different sensory mediums such as goop, bubbly water and painting… To top off the day, participants had ice cream sundaes to snack on.” Burke concluded, “We will certainly be looking to offer another event during Blueberry in the future but in the meantime, we will continue to offer smaller messy church events throughout the year. Following a bike decorating contest, children and their families paraded from the Fire Hall to the Sioux Mountain Soccer Field on July 30, where kids took part in running and potato sack races, even racing in the boots of the firefighters.
