The long-awaited Essex Farmers’ Market will soon be making its return to the heart of eastern Baltimore County.

A community revitalization initiative of the Eastern Baltimore County Task Force, the farmers’ market will be hosted by the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber of Commerce (CGCC).

Every Friday from June 3 to Oct. 28 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Essex Farmers’ Market will be in operation and will held at Essex Park & Ride located at 23 Eastern Blvd. The CGCC is soliciting nearby residents and others to “improve our local economy by supporting our farmers and other local vendors.”

The market’s 22-week run will feature an assortment of locally grown fresh produce in addition to an array of homemade food, art and craft items.

“The Essex and Sussex communities had been asking for a farmers’ market for many years,” CGCC President Sharon Kihn said.

“We were delighted to be able to obtain the funding to create a new market, which began operating last year. The fact that our farmers are from Kingsville and Middle River and that most of our vendors are local as well also means that patrons are helping local businesses be more successful.”

Some of what farmers’ market patrons can expect include a wide variety of organic food, flowers, breads and pastries, tea accessories, jams and jellies, tacos and burritos, baked goods, oils, incense, jewelry and more.

Participating vendors and farmers, along with their respective products and services, are as follows:

• B’more Urban Organic Poultry & Plants — Frozen chicken, chicken pot pie, chicken kabobs, herbs/flowers/vegetable plants.

• Hills Forest Fruit Farm — Fresh fruits and vegetables; flowers.

• Lotus_Soull Chakra Shop LLC — Handmade semi-precious crystal and gemstone jewelry, natural body oils, sage, incense and seashells.

• PD Fashion Jewelry — Handmade jewelry, flowers, dry herbs and small succulent gardens.

• Rest, Rise, Repeat — Breads, pastries and cookies.

• Taco Loco Mexican Food — Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, burrito bowls, aguas frescas, lemonade.

• Tea You There — Loose tea, pyramid sachets, bath teas and bombs, tea accessories, herbs.

• ToteAround by Chris — Decorated tote bags, towels, and other homemade crafts.

• Windlass Run Farm — Jams, jellies, eggs, herbs, honey and baked goods.

• Zinnia Virgo Soaps — Artisan soaps, bath salts/scrubs/bombs/teas, lip balm, oils, facial toners, lotion bars.

CGCC’s Eastern Baltimore County Task Force applied for and received a Commercial Revitalization Action Grant from Baltimore County’s Planning Department and an Operating Assistance Grant from the State of Maryland to make the market possible.

The local economy will benefit over the course of the farmers’ market because it will bring people back to the Essex commercial district, Kihn added. The market’s new location at Essex Park & Ride makes for increased visibility as the venue is situated in a highly frequented part of town.

The new location “should enhance our attendance at the market a great deal,” Kihn pointed out.

On the evening of June 10 — the second day of the farmers’ market — CGCC will be unveiling the new Essex Gateway Landmark Sculpture across the street from the site of the market, according to Kihn.
