The Minneapolis baseball team received a substantial drubbing at the hands of the Jordan Grays last Sunday with Jordan winning 12 to 6. This is the second time the Grays have defeated the Minneapolis Brewers.

Jordan citizens at the meeting last Friday evening were in favor of the city going ahead and building its own electric plant as soon as possible. The total cost of construction was estimated at $5,000 and maintenance about $2,200 per year, and an estimated income about $2,700. The city council held a meeting the following Saturday night and took the first step toward construction.

Cadet Staff Sergeant Juvinus A. Pauly was among 200 cadets who spent four weeks at ROTC camp at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Cadet S. Sgt. Pauly was co-salutatorian of Jordan High School Class of 1949 and now a student at the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

Eleven freight cars loaded with grain were derailed Thursday morning about a ½ mile south of the railroad depot in Brentwood. The train was going north when a journal on a wheel axle burned out, causing it to break and turning up 400 feet of track. Ray Lucas from Jordan was employed to help clean up spoiled grain. Salvage operations went smoothly and none of the train’s crew were injured.

Jordan Brewers won a 3 to 2 decision over the New Prague Robins last Thursday evening in New Prague. Highlight of the game was in the ninth inning when Jim Pollard was called safe on a close play at third. In the following argument the Robin catcher left home plate empty; seeing that Jim ran “home.” That increased Robin ire; the umpires left the park and the game ended.

The Jordan Fire Department will hold their annual picnic at the Mill Pond (Lagoon) Fallview Park in Jordan on Sunday, July 27.

The weekly band concert under the direction of Gayle Thompson will give their fourth concert on Saturday, July 26, in the band shell on First Street at 8:15 p.m.

Camp Pa-Hu-Ca on the shores, Fish Lake was sold for $2,500 to a group of New Prague people who have for years helped the place. The ten-acre camp was purchased by the Bean Foundation thirteen years ago and operated independently by the New Prague Boy Scouts. The new owners plan to use the camp as a youth camp and recreational area. The camp has eight cabins, a mess hall and lodge, a hall for crafts and equipment storage and two boathouses.

The Scott County Board of Commission at the July 18 meeting approved a conditional use permit for the Scott County Agricultural Society, Inc., to locate the county fairgrounds on 40 acres of land in Section 23 of St. Lawrence township between Jordan and Belle Plaine.

Approximately fifty mailboxes were damaged by Vandals in Sand Creek and Spring Lake township in Scott county. Two adults and two juveniles were apprehended Friday after deputy Mark Hartman was patrolling about 2 a.m. on Xeon Ave. He interrogated the four individuals in the vehicle, admitted they knocked down approximately fifty mailboxes with the baseball bats in the back seat.

The 76th Scott County Fair opens today and runs through Sunday.

Patricia Jaire, age 45, of Jordan was fatally injured in a one-vehicle accident about two and a half miles north of Kilkenny. Ms. Juaire worked as a bus driver for Stang Motors. She formerly owned Jordan Ceramic and Gift Shop.

Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Kuehle of Le Center announce the engagement of their daughter Suzanne to Michael Pekarna, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pekarna of Jordan. A Sept. 25 wedding is planned.

The Jordan High School class of 1942 held their 50th anniversary reunion, June 14 at the feed mill in Jordan. Ray Freund and Herman Koch, teachers, were honored guests of the 18 students that attended. Gene Schmidt was chairman.

The Jordan Brewers enter playoff action by capturing the B division and the Class C team of the CCL title.
