Despite a judge mishap, the Washington County 4-H fashion revue went on successfully.

There were nine participants for the Tuesday, July 19 show.  Gisele Jefferson was pressed into service as judge for the evening, as the judge who was to come forgot about it.  Everyone was glad that Jefferson stepped up for the event.

First to model was 16-year-old Cora Schrock, in the senior class, who modeled her Clothing Construction STEAM 3 outfit.  She made a leopard print jumpsuit, using a satin-like material.  The material frayed when she started to sew it, so she used a serger.  Schrock accented the outfit with a black satin-like black belt, shoulder straps and pockets.  Schrock is a member of Arickaree Tumbleweeds.

The next two girls were in the intermediate class.  Emmalee Gailus is 13 and a member of Sunnyside 4-H Club.  She modeled a black reverse tie-dyed matching shirt and leggings with rhinestones, with a fabric content of cotton and spandex.  During the eight years Gailus has been in 4-H, she has completed 47 projects which include beef, goats, poultry, cake decorating, wood working, cats, hiking, camping, shooting sports and decorate your duds.  Her favorite is working with tie-dye patterns.

The next intermediate to model was Rebecca Ratcliff, who is also a member of the Arickaree Tumbleweeds.  Ratcliff modeled a white denim top and pants with anime on the back and front of both pieces.  She likes to draw and use anime.  She has three projects and thinks the resin box she created is interesting.

The last member to model was junior Tylar Campbell.  Campbell is a member of Miscellaneous Mavericks and is very active, participating in volleyball, basketball, softball, hip hop dance along with 4-H.  This year she decorated jean shorts and a jean jacket.  She splatter-painted her shorts using pink, white, turquoise and lavender acrylic paint.  She embellished the pockets with crystal gemstones strands.  Campbell coordinated her jacket to match her shorts, she sewed crystal gemstone strands along the back of her jacket and adorned the front pockets with crystal gemstones.  She said she can’t wait to wear this outfit to school this year.

Members of clubs who did not take a project in clothing then modeled in the open class.  First to model was Jayde Gertge, a member of Country Club.  Because her favorite flower is the sunflower, Gertge modeled a black shirt with a black and yellow sunflower skirt she sewed with her Grandma.  The fabric content is part cotton and part polyester.   Her favorite was the pockets on the skirt.  She made a headband with a flower, along with her flip flops.

The next and last four to model were all seven or younger.  First was Jaida Schrock, Cora’s youngest sister and also a member of Arickaree Tumbleweeds.  Jaida tie-dyed a white t-shirt in a unique spiral-shaped pattern on the front, then carefully cut strips from the bottom of the shirt to slide beads on for a fun look this summer.  And of course, a hat is a must in the summer heat!  She accessorized the outfit with a white leather purse adorned with matching neon beaded fringe.

Next to model was Annabelle Tel, a member of Arickaree Tumbleweeds.  She decorated a shirt, pants and a pair of shoes.  She likes the sparkle and shine of items and bows in her hair.  The items were hot pressed on and designed by her.  She is excited to participate in fair for the first time this year.

Peter Tel, brother of Annabelle was next to model.  He enjoys outdoor activities such as running, hiking and sports.  He enjoys riding his motorcycle and being with family.  Peter decorated a shirt by painting Sonic the Hedgehog on it.  He likes Sonic for his good character and super-fast speed.  Peter is also a member of Arickaree Tumbleweeds, and is excited to participate in fair for the first time this year with his siblings.

The final model is also a member of the Tel Family and will join the Arickaree Tumbleweeds when she is old enough for 4-H.  Jayla Tel is four-years-old and enjoys hiking, running, doing puzzles, playing with her siblings and doing crafts.  She decorated a dance outfit by heating jewels on and making it sparkly.  She likes to keep up with her sister and be sparkly.  She, too, is excited to participate in fair with her siblings.

There was only one entry in the talent show, with Chase Gertge performing a lip sync to “It’s Hard to be Humble”.  He had the crowd clapping and singing along with him as he performed.  He really did a fantastic job.  Chase is a member of Country Club and is taking market swine as his project.

While Jefferson was busy finishing with the scores, I.B.T. FCE Club served refreshments for those who attended.  Though there were not many models, there was quite a crowd who came to watch the revue and talent show and it was well worth the time.

After the break, results were announced.  The five kids in the open class all received blue ribbons and a storage bag.  Tylar Campbell received a first blue for her junior class presentation.  The two girls in the intermediate class both received blue ribbons.  Emmalee Gailus received first and Rebecca Ratcliff received second.  Cora Schrock received first blue in the senior class.

Agent Jaime Axtell then presented the Overall Reserve Champion plaque to Tylar Campbell.  She was also presented with the Kim Kessinger Memorial Award.  Mark Borders of Farmers State Bank then presented the Champion plaque to Cora Schrock.  Both Schrock and Campbell received arm bouquets from Showers of Flowers.
