Designed To Reflect the Shape of a South Sea Pearl, Autore Moda’s Store Is Decked Out in Plush Pink and Soft Velvet

“We wanted the space to feel more like a relaxing lounge space than a typical jewellery store,” says interior designer Alex Morrison, who’s joined up with Ruby Autore, founder and director of Autore Moda, to open a new store in Double Bay.

The stunning flagship store is a dream collaboration for the childhood friends, who set out with a shared vision for the space: to create a resort-like environment inspired by the largest and most desirable pearl.

“When entering the store, customers are immersed in a calming haven composed of soft tones and elegant materials that were carefully selected to honour the South Sea pearl,” says Morrison. “The interior space follows the curve of its shell, curated with layers of minimalist shapes covered in textured hues of pink and terracotta.”

As customers move through the store, they’re invited to admire the brand’s jewellery range – including South Sea pearls set on bracelets, earrings, rings and other accessories – which rests in displays framed by pink marble with aged brass detailing. Curved hand-finished columns divide the window displays, illuminated by antique Murano sconces, paying tribute to founder Autore’s Italian heritage.

“The plastered Marmorino walls and velvet fabrics invite the light to reflect and dance around the space, illustrating the luminescence of the pearl and contrasting with a deeper custom-coloured micro-cement floor,” adds Morrison.

The pair wanted to focus on layering the space with colour. Its main feature is the alcove, which represents the inside of a pearl’s shell; its velvet banquette seating is decorated with pearl-shaped cushions. Morrison says they drew inspiration for the alcove from the beautiful design features in antiques dealer Richard Shapiro’s Malibu home and the Santa Monica Proper Hotel.

In addition to its fine jewellery collection, featuring precious and semi-precious stones including diamonds and sapphires, Autore Moda has also just launched its first men’s collection in collaboration with Jai Stevens. Autore Moda Man includes signet rings, sterling silver cuffs and a chain necklace and bracelet in masculine styles. The sterling silver and 18-carat gold vermeil also incorporate the natural delicacy of a South Sea pearl.
